Winter 2024 COVID-19 & Flu Update from Complete Health Partners
In 2023 we were still finding the “new normal” after the COVID-19 pandemic, unsure how Influenza would impact our communities and if COVID would still be the dominant virus in cold & flu season. In fall of 2023, we saw a very short flu season in our urgent care clinics, and were unclear if the influenza virus would continue to decrease with the rise of COVID cases. Moving in to 2024 cold & flu season, we’ve seen an array of respiratory illnesses from COVID, to Flu & RSV.
Flu
In the fall & winter of 2023, we saw a very short flu season, peaking in the fall and tapering off as winter approached. In 2024, we have seen the opposite, growing steadily in the fall with an increase in flu cases in December and still very high flu activity into the new year. In Middle Tennessee, the Tennessee Department of Health reports high activity of Influenza compared to other regions. We have seen mostly Flu B positive patients with a mix of Flu A moving into January 2024. The flu can be controlled in a few of different ways such as:
- Getting the flu vaccine
- Washing hands regularly
- Avoid touching face, nose or mouth
If you suspect you have the flu, you can walk-in or book an appointment online with our Hendersonville or Nashville urgent care clinic, to get the care you need, 7 days a week.
COVID-19
COVID-19 continues to evolve causing new variants to emerge, as of September 2023, we saw the rise of JN.1. This variant has quickly become the dominant variant in COVID cases. However, we have seen a decrease in COVID cases and hospitalizations compared to previous years according to the CDC. At our walk-in clinics, we have seen a significant decrease in COVID testing compared to previous years, however, we still have had COVID positive tests in our clinics this cold & flu season, suggesting COVID is still circulating in our communities. The most common symptoms we are seeing are:
- Fever/chills
- Cough
- Sore throat
- Runny/stuffy nose
- Body aches
- Fatigue
- Headaches
If you are suffering with any of the above symptoms, we recommend visiting our urgent care clinic in Hendersonville or Nashville to be tested and treated, to reduce longevity of symptoms. Is It Too Late to Get Vaccinated?
If you have chosen to not get vaccinated earlier in the season, but have changed your mind, it is not too late! Influenza and COVID-19 vaccines are still available. You can book your flu shot through our urgent care clinic here: https://completehealthpartners.com/nashville-urgent-care-walkin-clinic/ Although we currently do not offer the COVID-19 shot at our clinics, many local pharmacies, clinics, and hospitals do. Here is an interactive map from the CDC to find a location near you offering vaccines.
We do still offer COVID-19 and influenza testing at both of our clinic locations, which are open 7 days a week from 9am-7pm. You can walk-in or book an appointment online to skip the wait.
