Urgent Care Concussion

Can Urgent Care Treat a Concussion?

What is a Concussion?

A concussion is a type of traumatic brain injury (TBI) that occurs when the brain is jolted or shaken inside the skull. This can happen due to a blow to the head, a fall, or any other injury that causes the head and brain to move quickly back and forth. Concussions typically take place due to sports injuries or car accidents. If you suspect you may have a concussion, you should visit an urgent care or emergency room depending on the severity of symptoms.

What are the Symptoms of a Concussion?

Concussion symptoms can vary from mild to severe. If you recently were injured and suspect you have hit your head, you should look out for the following symptoms.

  • Headache or pressure in the head
  • Dizziness, balance issues, or double vision
  • Feeling hazy, foggy, or sluggish
  • Nausea or vomiting
  • Confusion, concentration problems, and memory issues

Can Urgent Care see Patients with Concussions?

The short answer is, yes. Our Nashville and Hendersonville urgent care clinics can see patients who show signs of concussion. To diagnose a concussion, our providers will perform an evaluation of brain function, balance, memory, concentration and orientation. Should the presented symptoms be more serious, our providers may recommend a CT scan from an outside imaging center.

Our providers will create a plan to manage concussion symptoms and work with patients to ensure proper treatment. Work or school activities may be limited due to concussion symptoms and your provider will suggest the recommended work or school accommodations to support your recovery. For more severe concussions you may be referred to our sports medicine physician who is an expert in concussion care. Our physician  can monitor your symptoms and  determine if you need  Vestibulo-ocular therapy for better control of balance and eye problems that can develop due to the concussion.
